Following the successful completion of a B.A (hons) in Music Studies at the University of Malta, Samuel was admitted at the Royal College of Music to study for a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance under the tuition of Kyle Horch. He subsequently graduated with distinction and was awarded the 2019 Jane Melber prize for saxophone. Across his career, Samuel has performed in various noteworthy venues across Europe, namely St David’s Hall (Cardiff), Marlborough House (London), and Centro Botín (Santander). He currently forms part of the Laefer Quartet, which is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and dynamic saxophone ensembles currently performing in the UK. In 2024, Samuel was awarded a doctorate in Music Education by the Royal College of Music for his analytic work in music education and policy. His work forms part of a broader commitment to a critical education which celebrates multiplicity, collaboration, and the innovative fruits of encounter. As a freelance researcher and an experienced educator, Samuel currently works in the fields of educational policy, instrumental teaching and leadership across primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
