Francesco Barbara

SCHOLAR DESCRIPTION

I started his musical studies when I was 8 years old at the Birzebbuga Band local band club and also studied at the Johann Strauss School of Music for several years. Later on, I formed part of the Malta Youth Orchestra as principal trumpet and has been playing with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra since 2019. During the past few years, Francesco furthered his studies in orchestral playing with Brendan Ball.

I also obtained Associate and Licentiate diplomas with distinction from the Trinity College of London in Trumpet performance and an Associate diploma in Music Theory, Knowledge and understanding.

I also participated in various master classes with renowned trumpet artists such as Rudy Korp in Spain and was chosen to participate in the Interlaken Classics festival in Switzerland whilst studying with Reinhold Friedrich and Jeroen Berwaerts.

In 2022 I was accepted to undertake a Masters in trumpet performance course at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen in Bremen, Germany under the tutorship of Christopher Dicken for modern trumpet and Susan Williams for Natural trumpet. I recently graduated from this course whilst having gained a lot of knowledge and experience by practicing, meeting new musicians and playing in Germany. My ambition is to continue improving and learning because there is so much to learn in music and there are many ways to improve in what I do.
